Cryptocurrency Investigations Specialist

Job Description:

The Cryptocurrency Investigations Specialist will support PayPal’s Global Financial Crime & Customer Protection program by conducting complex investigations into illicit cryptocurrency use, identifying financial crime patterns, and collaborating with internal and external partners to identify trends and emerging threats.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive investigations to identify financial crime patterns and typologies.
  • Analyze investigative leads and root causes to identify broader policy and product issues related to cryptocurrency activity.
  • Research and review current and emerging trends involving cryptocurrency and other digital assets.
  • Deliver briefings to partners and leaders on current and emerging cryptocurrency threats.
  • Engage with internal and external partners to collaborate, raise awareness of investigative findings, and develop risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Detect potentially suspicious activity across multiple platforms and jurisdictions.
  • Respond to regulatory filing obligations such as Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
  • Manage multiple competing priorities with difficult deadlines, exhibiting a sense of urgency when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with blockchain forensic software for investigating anti-money laundering, complex financial crime, and/or trans-national organized crime.
  • Understanding of risk patterns and risk mitigation techniques and policies to detect, deter, and mitigate financial crimes.
  • Advanced research and analytical skills with a high attention to detail, ability to assess large amounts of data, identify patterns/trends, and create reports on critical information.
  • Expert oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information accurately and clearly to all management levels.
  • Knowledge of Federal Regulations (Bank Secrecy and USA PATRIOT Acts), and governing bodies such as
  • FinCEN & OFAC.
  • Experience in Crypto-specific investigative work (preferred).

Desirables:

  • Knowledge of Federal Regulations and governing bodies such as Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Experience in managing and investigating financial crimes specifically related to cryptocurrency.
